My First BJD

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been into dolls. I used to consume a lot of doll customization and ball-jointed doll (BJD) content. For years, I’ve been wanting my own BJD, but they are expensive. At different points, I even consider getting into sculpting just to make my own. Back in September of last year, I came across enough money to finally buy one. It finally came in about 2 weeks ago.

The Doll

I spent a little over 500 USD on my doll. The body and head are both from Doll Chateau. The body is the k-body-12 model, while the head is Cecile’s. Cecile was actually discontinued a couple of months ago, so I got lucky to order that head when I did. I got the body and head in peach and also paid for body blushing and the face-up. I have zero experience customizing dolls, so I was going to let the professionals do that painting. The doll stands at about 20 inches (50.5 cm).

Clothing

I bought my doll through Alice’s Collection, so I decided to buy a few articles of clothing as well in hopes they would fit my doll. I bought a beanie, socks, underwear, shoes, and a suspender skirt. Everything mostly fits; the skirt is a bit big, but it stays on. The shirt and scarf you see in the images are just things I put together really quickly, so they’d be less naked.

I plan on trying to make my doll’s clothes myself. I do hand sew and have quite a bit of fabric in my possession. I plan to do this because 1) it sounds like a nice project, and 2) finding clothes that will fit my doll will be hard. My doll’s body is slimmer and has longer limbs than the usual 1/4 doll, so a lot of clothing wouldn’t fit well. If I were to buy clothing for my doll, it’d either have to be custom-made or I’d have to tailor it. So I don’t plan on buying much clothing unless I believe the style of it would work well.

Customization

I’ve been a bit busy with school, so I haven’t really had the time to stop and think about what my plans are for the style I want for my doll. They don’t even have a name yet. My two aesthetic ideas right now are goth and clowncore. I suppose I could always go for a gothic clown, but I’m not sure. I really should name them soon.
